Dr. Ganga Fernando is a Professor of Chemistry at Cottey College, holding the Iva Corpstein Chair and serving as Department Coordinator. She holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a BS (Honors) in Chemistry from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, alongside a Law degree from Sri Lanka Law College. Her research focuses on proteomic MALDI-MS analysis, forensic mass spectrometry applications, cyanotoxin detection, heavy metal environmental impacts, and disability rehabilitation in developing nations. She actively promotes STEM through outreach programs like C3O and advises multiple student clubs.

Research interests emphasize innovative mass spectrometry techniques for environmental and biomedical applications. Her work on cyanotoxins in Nevada, MO water supplies and post-civil war disability access in Sri Lanka demonstrates interdisciplinary engagement. Recent publications span supercapacitor materials and protein analysis methodologies.

Dr. Fernando leads global service-learning trips, including a 2018 Sri Lanka/India expedition with 10 students. She collaborates internationally on disability healthcare research and presented at global conferences like the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Public Health Conference.
