Galit Yovel is a full professor in the School of Psychological Sciences and Sagol School of Neuroscience at Tel Aviv University. She previously served as the head of Strauss neuroimaging center and as the former head of the School of Psychological Sciences.
Prof. Yovel's research focuses on the neural and cognitive mechanisms of human face recognition. Her work integrates psychological sciences, neuroimaging techniques, and AI face recognition algorithms to investigate how humans recognize faces and persons. Her studies extend beyond facial features to examine how the body, motion, and semantic information contribute to person recognition. She established the Person Recognition Lab at Tel Aviv University in 2005 after completing her post-doctoral training at MIT.
Prof. Yovel received her PhD in Psychology from the University of Chicago and completed her Post-Doctoral training in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT before returning to Israel in 2005 to establish her research laboratory.
She leads the Person Recognition Lab at Tel Aviv University, which employs a multidisciplinary approach to understanding person recognition, combining behavioral experiments, neuroimaging methods, and computational modeling. Her research bridges cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence to unravel the complex processes involved in human social perception.
