Galen Clavio serves as Professor, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, Director of the Sports Media Program, and Director of the National Sports Journalism Center at Indiana University's Media School.
He earned his Bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 2001 followed by a Ph.D. from the same institution, with prior faculty service at the University of Miami before returning to IU.
His research examines social and digital media's transformative impact on sports journalism, fan engagement, and communications-marketing convergence, producing over 50 peer-reviewed publications that analyze evolving dynamics between sports entities, media, and consumers in digital ecosystems.
Clavio teaches sportscasting, play-by-play broadcasting, social media applications in sports, and sports-society intersections, integrating his professional background as a reporter and media relations director.
He actively mentors students through The Hoosier Network—advising 60+ semester participants in this award-winning multiplatform sports media outlet—and manages on-air talent for Big Ten Student U, providing national broadcasting experience for student coverage of Big Ten events.
