Gail Vanstone is an Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities at York University, coordinating both the Humanities Program and the Culture & Expression Program. She holds a PhD in Social and Political Thought from York University, alongside degrees from York and Université Paul Valéry. Her research focuses on feminist film theory, women’s documentary production, and Canadian cultural history, particularly through her seminal work on Studio D, the National Film Board’s women’s film unit.
Dr. Vanstone has led significant academic initiatives, including revising the Humanities program and expanding the Culture & Expression program. She has contributed to scholarly communities through roles like Chair of the LA&PS Committee for Teaching and Learning and Student Success, and via international engagements such as invited lectures at Beijing Normal University and the Università della Svizzera italiana.
