Gail McElroy

Gail McElroy is Professor in Political Science at Trinity College Dublin's School of Social Sciences and Philosophy. Her research specializes in comparative politics, particularly legislative organization, voting behavior, and party systems. She serves as national coordinator for the Irish National Election Study and Consortium of National Election Studies.

McElroy has held significant leadership positions including Dean of Faculty (2019-2024), Head of School (2015-2019), and Head of Department (2013-2015). Her research examines voter expectations in coalition systems, gender quotas, party competition in Ireland, and legislative behavior in the European Parliament.

Her notable awards include visiting fellowships at Toulouse School of Economics, research grants from Harriman Institute/Carnegie Corporation, and the Carl Albert Best Dissertation Award. She serves on editorial boards of major political science journals including European Union Politics and British Journal of Political Science.
