Markus Wagner is a Full Professor for Quantitative Party and Election Research at the Department of Government, University of Vienna, and Deputy Head of the Department. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the London School of Economics (LSE) and a BA in History and Politics from the University of Warwick. His research focuses on party competition, electoral behavior, affective polarization, and the electoral connection between voters and representatives. He is associated with the Austrian National Election Study (AUTNES) and has published extensively on topics including ideological identities, migration politics, and the impact of austerity on political polarization.
Key projects include studies on radical-right supporters' affective polarization, coalition dynamics in Germany, and the role of emotions in vote choice. His work bridges quantitative methods with theoretical insights into party strategies and voter behavior. He regularly participates in international conferences and collaborates with researchers across Europe.
