Professor Gail Davey is the Professor of Global Health Epidemiology at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), University of Sussex. She specializes in neglected tropical diseases, particularly podoconiosis, and has pioneered interdisciplinary research to address its epidemiology, aetiology, and socio-economic impacts. Her work emphasizes global health equity and has led to policy changes in Ethiopia and Rwanda. She holds an OBE for her contributions to NTD research.
Dr. Davey's career includes nine years at Addis Ababa University, where she supervised over 40 Master's theses and co-founded Ethiopia's first PhD Public Health program. She has secured major research funding, trained 9 PhD and 12+ Master's students from endemic countries, and established initiatives like the International Podoconiosis Initiative (Footwork).
Her research spans podoconiosis distribution, genetic/mineralogical causes, and intervention efficacy. She advocates for disease inclusion in WHO NTD lists and has published over 80 articles. Current roles include Research Lead for the Department of Global Health and Infection, EDI Lead for CREATE Global Health PhD Programme, and Co-Director of the NIHR RIGHT 5-S Foundation.
