Gail Archer is an adjunct professor and distinguished organist affiliated with Vassar College (since 2007) and Columbia University’s Harriman Institute. She serves as College Organist at Vassar and Director of the Music Program at Barnard College. Her academic roles include conducting the Barnard-Columbia Chorus and Chamber Singers.

Research: Focuses on under-explored organ repertoires from Eastern Europe, particularly Ukraine and Russia. Prominent projects include the 2008 Messiaen centennial cycle (awarded “Best of 2008” by Time Out NY) and recordings like Cantius (2022) and Chernivtsi, A Russian Journey. Founded Musforum to amplify women’s contributions in organ music.
Recent Grants: 2024 Harriman Institute and Vassar grants for Bulgarian organ music CD project. Active in Ukrainian relief efforts via concerts and media collaborations.
