معرفی
Gaby van Iersel is a University Researcher at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Department of Electrical Engineering and a PhD candidate at Utrecht University. Her primary research focus is on enhancing healthcare for newborns, particularly the most fragile, through the application of medical image analysis to understand early brain development.
Education
- Master of Science in Medical Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology, 2023
- Bachelor's degree (field unspecified), with a focus on neonatal research; bachelor's project on automatic quantification of intraventricular brain hemorrhages in preterm infants.
Research Interests
Van Iersel's research centers on medical image analysis for neonatal care, specifically using deep learning to analyze 3D fetal ultrasound data for brain segmentation. Her work aims to advance the understanding of early brain development in fetuses and newborns, with particular attention to preterm infants. Key areas include the detection of conditions such as intraventricular hemorrhage and retinopathy of prematurity, leveraging artificial intelligence to improve diagnostic accuracy and timeliness.
Projects and Grants
She is a core member of the CHAMP project (Child Health through Artificial Intelligence Models and Predictions), funded by the NFG AiNed Fellowship grant. CHAMP utilizes data from the YOUth cohort study, which tracks nearly 4000 children from pregnancy to early adulthood, to derive insights on brain development and social-emotional outcomes using AI models.
Laboratory Affiliation
Van Iersel conducts her research within the Biomedical Diagnostics Lab at the Eindhoven University of Technology, collaborating closely with the Developmental Psychology department at Utrecht University and the Signal Processing Systems group at TU/e.
