Gabriele Wiegand

Gabriele Wiegand serves as Researcher and head of the Reaction Kinetics and Substance Data group at the Institute of Catalysis Research and Technology (IKFT), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), a position she has held since 1998 following her PhD in Physical Chemistry.

Her educational background includes:

• Chemistry studies at University Karlsruhe (TH)
• PhD in Physical Chemistry from University Karlsruhe (TH), 1993

Her research spans solubility and kinetic measurements in high-pressure/high-temperature systems, focusing on phase equilibria in supercritical fluids, thermodynamic quantification of reactive systems, and advanced spectroscopy techniques (NIR, Raman) in supercritical CO₂ and water. This work directly enables industrial applications like geothermal energy systems and CO₂ deep storage solutions.

Her scientific recognition includes:

• Feodor-Lynen Fellowship from the Alexander-von-Humboldt Association

She has secured major research funding including DFG Grant WI 1893/1-2 and EU Framework Programme projects MUSTANG (2009-2012) and TRUST (2012-2017), while developing market-ready technologies like the SINASCO monitoring device with SITEC Sieber Engineering AG. Beyond research, she served as Health and Safety Officer for the bioliq project (2005-2010) and has been an elected Staff Council member since 2014.

Her IKFT group maintains active collaborations with Deutsche Metrohm AG and international research consortia on hydrothermal phase analysis and supercritical process optimization.
