معرفی
Martin K. Beyer is a Full Professor and former Head (2017–2024) of the Institute of Ion Physics and Applied Physics at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He holds a habilitation in Physical Chemistry (2004) and a PhD in Physical Chemistry (1999, summa cum laude) from TU München, following a postdoctoral fellowship at UC Berkeley (1999–2000). His research spans chemical and photochemical reactions of nanoscale gas-phase ions, including charged metal complexes and ionic clusters, with applications in astrochemistry, atmospheric chemistry, and mechanochemistry.
- Education:
- Habilitation in Physical Chemistry, TU München (2004)
- PhD in Physical Chemistry (summa cum laude), TU München (1999)
- Diploma in Physics, TU München (1996)
Research Interests: Beyer investigates gas-phase reactions of metal ions and clusters using mass spectrometry, photodissociation spectroscopy, and quantum chemical methods. Key areas include nanocalorimetry for thermochemical studies, infrared BIRD spectroscopy for binding energies, and atomic force microscopy for mechanochemical bond rupture kinetics. He also explores water clusters, salt clusters doped with organics, and covalently anchored single molecules.
Scientific Contributions: With 186 peer-reviewed publications (>7300 citations), Beyer has made landmark discoveries such as spectroscopic characterization of FeH+, CO2 bond formation in water clusters, and the development of the COGEF computational method. His work on hydrated electrons, hydrogen evolution reactions, and catalyst poisoning mechanisms has advanced understanding of interstellar and atmospheric chemistry.
- Major Awards:
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2017)
- Heisenberg Fellowship (2005)
- Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize (2003)
- Feodor Lynen Postdoctoral Fellowship (1999)
Leadership and Service: Beyer served as Study Dean at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (2012–2013) and chaired examination committees. He has been Principal Investigator for the EFRE/K-Regio Project GALANT (2020–2023, 883 k€ budget), a Gordon Research Conference Chair (2024), and a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Mass Spectrometry (2024).
