Dr. Gabriele Belle is an Associate Professor in the Physics & Astronomy Department at George Mason University. She holds dual roles as an instructional faculty member and faculty researcher. Her expertise spans Applied Science, Materials Science, Physics, and Science Education. With over 22 years of STEM teaching experience, she specializes in college physics, online astronomy courses, and instrumentation labs, serving as the lab coordinator for all college physics courses.
Dr. Belle holds a PhD in Physics and Mathematics (Radboud University, 1985), an MS in Space Studies (International Space University, 1997), and an MS in Physics (Karl Franzens University, 1982). Her research focuses on semiconductor materials, quantum structures, and experimental condensed matter physics, as reflected in her early-career publications from the 1980s.
Her work emphasizes magneto-optical effects, superlattice characterization, and quantum well dynamics. Notable contributions include studies on magnetic field interactions in semiconductor systems and exciton binding energy determinations. She has received team awards for the Falcon Gold Project from the Air Force Association and AIAA.
Dr. Belle’s teaching innovations include hands-on instrumentation courses where students design electronic circuits and data acquisition systems. She actively coordinates laboratory resources for foundational physics education, bridging theoretical concepts with practical experimentation.
