Gabriela Juncosa is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Complexity Science Hub (CSH) in Vienna, working on the ERC-funded "CollAdapt" project within the Collective Minds research group. Her work examines how online and offline interactions shape beliefs and influence civic-political behavior in digital society, with a focus on how individuals integrate challenging perspectives amid social pressures.
She earned her PhD in Network Science from Central European University in 2024. Her doctoral research investigated online political deliberation dynamics, specifically exploring the tension between defending core beliefs and conforming to social pressures through the lens of Spiral of Silence theory and self-censorship mechanisms.
Dr. Juncosa's research program spans Online Political Deliberation, Opinion Dynamics, and Content Moderation, employing empirical and experimental methods to analyze how social context affects opinion expression. Her work reveals how toxicity in digital spaces suppresses minority viewpoints and how collective wisdom can improve misinformation detection, with implications for democratic discourse and platform governance.
As part of CSH's Collective Minds group, she leads projects analyzing YouTube political discourse during the 2020 US elections and Twitter's Community Notes system, investigating how group composition and partisan dynamics influence fact-checking accuracy in collaborative content moderation environments.
