Associate Professor of International Law and Arbitration at the Department of Law and International Relations, University of Continuing Education Krems since 2024, serving as Deputy Head of Department. Concurrently holds a Fellowship at Stanford Law School since 2014 and maintains teaching positions at the Universities of Vienna and Göttingen. His academic leadership extends to heading the Department of International Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Dr. Lentner earned his PhD in Law from the University of Vienna in 2017 with his dissertation on “The Legal Nature of UN Security Council Referrals to the International Criminal Court,” conducted partly at Cambridge University's Lauterpacht Centre. He holds advanced diplomas from Harvard Law School, the European University Institute in Florence (Law & Logic), and the Central European University in Budapest.
His research spans international law with specialized expertise in investment protection law, arbitration, dispute resolution mechanisms, law of international organizations, international criminal law, and world trade law. Complementing this, he investigates European Union law (particularly foreign trade law) alongside foundational legal theory and philosophy. His current habilitation project examines “Domestic Law Concepts in International Investment Arbitration.” This scholarly work demonstrates consistent focus on the intersection of intellectual property rights with investment arbitration, as evidenced by his extensive publication record analyzing cases like Einarsson v Canada and Bridgestone v Panama.
Dr. Lentner has received significant recognition including the 2020 Lower Austria State Science Prize for his monograph “The UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court” and a 2019-2020 Excellence Scholarship for International Research Stays from the Lower Austria government, facilitating his Visiting Scholar position at Harvard Law School.
His academic service includes editorial roles with the Harvard International Law Journal (2019), Cambridge International Law Journal Advisory Board, and peer review for prestigious journals including the European Journal of International Law and Leiden Journal of International Law. Professional experience includes work at an international arbitration firm, bridging theoretical scholarship with practical application.
