Gabriel Hankins is an Associate Professor of English at Clemson University's College of Arts and Humanities. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in English Literature and Greek from Swarthmore College. His research focuses on Modernism, Digital Humanities, Television Studies, Comparative Theory, and Horror, with a particular interest in the intersections of technology, pedagogy, and cultural critique.
His current projects include *The Cambridge Introduction to Digital Humanities* and co-editing *The Digital Futures of Graduate Study in the Humanities*. He has authored *Interwar Modernism and the Liberal World Order* (2019), shortlisted for the Modernist Studies Association First Book Prize, and contributed to influential works like *Visualizing Modernist Magazines with GIS* (2018). His scholarship bridges literary analysis with digital methodologies, exploring how modernist aesthetics engage with global governance, technology, and ethical frameworks.
Hankins serves as co-series editor for the *Cambridge Elements of Digital Literature Studies* and actively participates in scholarly communities through editorial roles and interdisciplinary collaborations. His awards include recognition for his impactful contributions to modernist studies and digital humanities pedagogy.
His work often examines how historical literary movements like Modernism resonate with contemporary issues, such as the transformation of graduate education in the digital age and the role of horror in emancipatory narratives.
