Gabriel Eidelman is an Associate Professor, Teaching Stream at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto, with a joint appointment at the Institute for Management and Innovation (IMI). He serves as Director of the Urban Policy Lab, a Faculty Fellow at the Institute on Municipal Finance and Governance, and Faculty Advisor at the School of Cities. His research focuses on urban governance, intergovernmental relations, and municipal policy in Canada and North America, with particular attention to metropolitan governance challenges and multilevel policy coordination.
Eidelman teaches courses on urban politics and governance in the Master of Public Policy and Master of Urban Innovation programs. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto and completed a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at Western University. His work appears in journals like Cities, Urban Affairs Review, and Journal of Urban Affairs, with policy reports for institutions such as the Canadian Urban Institute and the Institute for Research on Public Policy.
Key research themes include municipal roles in housing, healthcare, transportation, and climate policy. His recent analyses of regional governance during the pandemic and Ontario’s mayoral reforms highlight his expertise in translating academic insights into actionable policy frameworks.
