Professor Georgios Kazamias is a distinguished academic in the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Cyprus (UCY), serving as Dean of the School of Letters from 2010 to 2013. He holds a Law degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1982–87) and a PhD from the University of Bradford (1987–90). His academic career includes roles as a lecturer at the University of Bradford and visiting lecturer at UCY before becoming a full-time faculty member in 2002. He has held sequential ranks: Assistant Professor (2002–08), Associate Professor (2008–23), and currently Professor (2024–present).
His research focuses on Cyprus' modern history, Europeanization, oral history, and the digitization of archival materials. Key interests include Greece’s international relations, economic history (1878–1960), and the impact of colonialism. His work often integrates microhistory, migration studies, and the intersection of history with collective memory.
Professor Kazamias has organized numerous international conferences, such as 'The First World War and Cyprus' (2014) and 'Cypriot-Jewish Relations' (2014). He has directed projects like the 'Digital Library of Oral History Archives' and 'Economic History of Cyprus.' His publications include monographs on the Turkish invasion of 1974, Greek involvement in the Korean War, and co-edited volumes on Cyprus-EU relations. Recent works explore migration patterns and World War I’s cultural impact.
He has secured significant grants, including EU-funded research on migration (2020–2023) and collaborations with institutions like the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation. His academic leadership includes chairing the Jewish Studies Project at UCY and representing Cyprus in international initiatives like the COST Action 'Women on the Move.'
