G. Katsoukis is an Assistant Professor at the University of Twente, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Department of Chemical Engineering. His research focuses on photo- and electrochemical conversion science, with a mission to advance sustainable energy technologies like water splitting, CO₂, and N₂ conversion. He employs time-resolved operando/in-situ infrared spectroscopy and nanofabrication to study catalytic mechanisms and engineer nanoscale materials.
Education:
- PhD in Material Science from Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) of Erlangen-Nuremberg under Prof. Dirk Guldi.
- Postdoctoral research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) under Prof. Heinz Frei, focusing on artificial photosynthesis and spectroscopic techniques.
Research Interests:
- Artificial photosynthesis and nanoscale photoreactors inspired by natural systems.
- Integration of catalysts, light absorbers (quantum dots, graphene), and ultrathin membranes to control charge/mass transport.
- Z-scheme electron transport and selective proton/oxygen permeability in materials like silicon dioxide and carbon nanotubes.
Teaching & Mentorship:
- Teaches courses on electrochemical fundamentals, molecular spectroscopy, and electrocatalysis.
- Emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, and mentorship to foster independent researchers.
Labs & Collaborations: Part of the Photocatalytic Synthesis group (TNW-CE-PCS), collaborating across disciplines to address global energy challenges.
