Gülnur Tarhan

Gülnur Tarhan is a Professor at Adiyaman University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Basic Medical Sciences. With a distinguished career spanning multiple decades, she has established herself as a leading expert in microbiology and tuberculosis research in Turkey.

Her research interests focus on microbiology, particularly tuberculosis and drug resistance mechanisms. She has conducted extensive work on molecular typing methods for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, diagnostic techniques for infectious diseases, and nontuberculous mycobacteria. Her laboratory research integrates molecular biology techniques with clinical applications to improve tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment.

Professor Tarhan has published numerous articles in the last five years, with research spanning molecular epidemiology of tuberculosis across different regions of Turkey, drug susceptibility testing methods, and identification of resistance mechanisms. Her work has practical implications for public health and clinical practice in infectious disease management.

As an educator, she teaches Pharmacology, Microbiology and Parasitology, Immunology, and Medical Microbiology across various levels of medical education. Her commitment to education extends to authoring and translating important microbiology textbooks that serve Turkish medical students and professionals.

Professor Tarhan has collaborated with national institutions including the Ministry of Health and Refik Saydam Hygiene Center, as well as international partners through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Infectious Disease Control Project. Her work bridges laboratory research, clinical practice, and public health policy in infectious disease control.
