Géraldine Merle is a Full Professor at Polytechnique Montréal's Department of Chemical Engineering, specializing in bioelectrochemistry and biomedical materials. She holds the TransMedTech Research Chair in Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologies and collaborates with the Institut de génie biomédical.
- Master of Science (ENSCM-UM2, 2005)
- PhD in Materials Chemistry (IEM, 2008)
- Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Twente (2008-2009) and McGill University (2009)
Her research focuses on:
- Developing electrochemical biosensors for cancer diagnostics
- Creating nanostructured biomaterials to prevent infections
- Designing antimicrobial coatings for medical devices
Recent work demonstrates expertise in zinc detection systems, MUC1 tumor marker analysis, and MMP1 cancer biomarker identification through advanced sensing platforms. She has received over $1.2 million in Canadian government research funding for interdisciplinary projects.
Merle supervises graduate students in:
- Antimicrobial wound healing materials
- Bismuth sulfide biosensors
- Staphylococcus detection systems
Her laboratory develops:
- Biodegradable metal peroxide coatings
- Conducting polymer heart patches
