Prof. Frieder W. Scheller is a Professor in the Department of Analytical Biochemistry at the University of Potsdam. He is actively involved in the UniCat research network, contributing to Research Fields E3 and previously B5. His research focuses on bioanalysis, biosensors, and bioelectronics, with a strong emphasis on molecular imprinting, electrochemistry, and protein recognition technologies. He has received the prestigious Bioelectrochemistry Award in 2009 from the International Society for Electrochemistry. His work often involves collaborations, such as with UniCat groups and international institutions, and has led to significant advancements in biosensor development for healthcare diagnostics, including projects funded by the EU and Marie Curie Actions. His lab develops novel bioelectronic interfaces, nanomaterial-based sensors, and enzyme-integrated systems.
- Research Highlights: Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), electrochemical sensing of biomolecules, enzyme-mimetic materials, and bioelectrocatalysis.
- Key Projects: Participation in the 'Impulse Centre for Integrated Bio Analytics – The Tissue Lab' funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
- Grants: EU grants, Marie Curie Actions, and collaborative funding through UniCat.
Prof. Scheller’s research bridges biochemistry, materials science, and analytical chemistry, with applications in healthcare diagnostics and environmental monitoring. His team’s innovations include advanced biosensors for proteins like transferrin and drug compounds like artemisinin, as well as enzymatic systems for toxin detection.
