Géraldine Le Roux is a Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Western Brittany (UBO) and researcher at the Breton and Celtic Research Centre (CRBC). She co-directed the Department of Ethnology (2016-2021) and holds an ERC Consolidator Grant (2023-2028) for the project OSPAPIK. Her affiliations include joint roles with research groups like IDMeR, focusing on maritime anthropology.
Her research examines:
- Indigenous Art: Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander and Pacific artistic practices, art market ethics, and cultural reappropriation.
- Marine Debris: Ghost net recycling, ocean pollution anthropology, and community-based environmental education.
- Fishing Heritage: Tuna fishing techniques, intangible maritime heritage, and sustainable practices.
Her publications emphasize environmental anthropology, Indigenous sovereignty, and artistic responses to ecological crises. Recent works analyze ghost net art, Pacific diaspora in museums, and gendered representations of the sea, often blending ethnography with curatorial practice.
