معرفی
Füsun Can is Professor of Medical Microbiology in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at Koç University, Turkey, where she also serves as Head of the Medical Microbiology Department and Deputy Director of the Koç University International Summer Course on Infectious Diseases (KUISCID).
Education
- PhD, Başkent University (2006)
- Master's Degree, Ankara University (1995)
- Bachelor's Degree, Hacettepe University (1989)
Research Interests
Professor Can's research focuses on three overarching themes:
- Epidemiology of emerging bacterial pathogens – tracking the spread and evolution of novel or multidrug-resistant organisms.
- Antibiotic resistance mechanisms – molecular and phenotypic characterisation of resistance determinants in Gram-negative bacteria.
- Biofilm-associated infections – understanding how microbial communities on surfaces and medical devices complicate antimicrobial therapy.
Her scholarly output is highly translational, bridging fundamental microbiology with clinical infectious-disease challenges. Recent work explores antimicrobial stewardship gaps, environmental persistence of viral pathogens such as Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus, and innovative anti-biofilm strategies combining photothermal/photodynamic therapy.
