Fumitake Kametani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering. His research focuses on advanced material characterization techniques such as transmission and scanning electron microscopy, atomic resolution electron energy loss spectrometry, X-ray diffraction analysis, and focused ion beam applications. He holds a Ph.D. from Kyoto University.
His research interests center on superconductivity materials and their properties, particularly in polycrystalline systems like BaFe2As2 and Bi-2212. Recent studies emphasize optimizing critical current density (Jc), flux pinning mechanisms, and microstructural analysis in high-field superconductors for applications in advanced magnet technology and particle accelerators. Key projects include developing cost-effective Fe-based superconductors for next-generation colliders and analyzing degradation mechanisms in coated conductors.
Kametani's work bridges material science and engineering, leveraging microscopy and spectroscopic techniques to understand electronic behavior in superconductors.
