Dr. Fumiko Hoeft is a Professor and Campus Dean/Chief Administrative Officer at UConn Waterbury, affiliated with the University of Connecticut's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Department of Psychological Sciences. She holds courtesy appointments in multiple departments, including Computer Science and Pediatrics.
Education: MD from Keio University (1995), PhD in Neuroscience (2003).
Research focuses on neurobiological mechanisms of brain development, neuroimaging, literacy acquisition, and dyslexia. She directs the brainLENS lab, collaborating with UCSF, and explores intergenerational brain development and reading skills. Her work emphasizes emotional well-being, resilience, and interventions for learning disabilities.
Awards include the International Dyslexia Association (2014, 2022), Learning & the Brain Foundation (2015), and UConn College honors (2021). Her research spans translational studies in schools, peer mentoring, and neuroimaging tools like the Haskins Pediatric Atlas.
Teaching interests include neuroimaging techniques, grant writing, and science outreach. Her lab integrates clinical and academic research to address learning challenges and neurodevelopmental disorders globally.
