معرفی
Fridolin Zimmermann is a Researcher affiliated with the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland), within the Faculty of Biology and Medicine. He serves as Coordinator of the large carnivore monitoring program at KORA (Talgut Zentrum 5, CH-3063 Ittigen). His research focuses on applied ecology, conservation, and management of large carnivores in human-dominated landscapes, emphasizing interactions between predators, prey, and human activities. Key areas include camera-trapping methodologies, population demography, and landscape ecology. He collaborates internationally on projects involving the Balkan lynx, Eurasian lynx, and wolves.
Zimmermann has contributed to transboundary conservation initiatives, such as the 21-year wolf population monitoring across seven countries, and co-edited a seminal book on camera trap applications. His work addresses challenges like habitat connectivity, human-predator conflicts, and the integration of stakeholder knowledge. He leads efforts to standardize wildlife monitoring data through initiatives like Camtrap DP, promoting open and FAIR data practices.
Recent publications highlight his focus on lynx survival dynamics, reintroduction success, and long-term population modeling. He actively engages in capacity-building for young biologists in large mammal ecology and conservation strategies. His research bridges ecological theory with practical management, aiming to harmonize biodiversity conservation with sustainable human activities.
