Frehot Hailou

Frehot Hailou is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics, Finance & Marketing at West Virginia State University (WVSU), within the College of Business & Social Sciences. He previously served as a lecturer in French Language and Literature at Howard University (2001-2008) and taught Economics at Montgomery College (2007-2009). He holds a BA and MA in Economics from York University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Howard University, supplemented by an MA in French Linguistics and Literature from Howard University.

As Director of the Center for Economic Research and Entrepreneurship at WVSU, his research focuses on economic development, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary studies bridging economics and linguistics. He has secured grants from The Thurgood Marshall Center for Advancing Opportunities and the PEER grant program. His work has been featured in media outlets like The Washington Times and The Charleston Gazette-Mail.

Dr. Hailou has held administrative roles including Assessment Coordinator and Co-writer of the Self-Study for academic accreditation of the College of Business and Economics. His professional contributions span program coordination, institutional research, and community-focused economic initiatives.
