Freek van der Meer is Professor and Vice Dean at the University of Twente's Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, where he leads the Department of Earth System Analysis. He holds adjunct positions at Delft University of Technology and Utrecht University.
His research specializes in hyperspectral remote sensing for geological applications, geostatistical modeling of geothermal systems, and geoscience education. Key projects include EU Asialink BRIDGE and GEOCAP, focusing on sustainable geosystem exploration across Southeast Asia.
Recent publications emphasize geoscience curriculum development, ecosystem resilience monitoring via spectroscopy, and advanced hyperspectral data processing techniques. His teaching covers physical principles of remote sensing and hyperspectral data analysis methodologies.
