Fredrik Snellman is an Associate Professor and Docent in Social Work at Umeå University's Department of Social Work. He leads responsibilities for PhD postgraduate education and the higher seminar series at the department. His research focuses on ageism, the views of older people, and societal attitudes toward aging, emphasizing the health impacts of age discrimination. He collaborates in interdisciplinary projects, including the GERDA research initiative and the European network I S1402.
Education: Licentiate in Social Policy from Åbo Akademi University (2005), PhD in Social Work from Umeå University (2009). Former roles include employment at the Swedish School of Social Science, University of Helsinki (2012–2013).
Research interests span ageism's effects on social participation, elderly alcohol use, and caregiving dynamics. His work integrates teaching, aiming to raise student awareness of aging-related issues, and public engagement through media, lectures, and collaborations with pensioner organizations.
