Fredrik Gregorius serves as an Assistant Professor at Linköping University within the Department of History, Art History and Religious Studies (HKR) under the Faculty of Philosophy. His academic work bridges religious history with contemporary cultural phenomena through interdisciplinary research approaches.
Gregorius specializes in the practice and reception of Old Norse religion across historical periods, examining how these ancient beliefs have been interpreted from the Gothicism era through to modern neo-pagan movements. His research extends to Christian apocalyptic movements in the United States, modern Satanism, and Luciferianism, with particular attention to how religious beliefs transform in response to political and social contexts.
His current research focuses reveal significant trends in religious studies: the politicization of Norse heritage in contemporary culture, the environmental dimensions of pagan spirituality, and the complex relationship between religious identity and nationalist ideologies. These investigations frequently examine how archaeological sites and museums mediate historical religious practices for modern audiences.
Gregorius actively participates in the LiU Hub for Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Imaginations, an interdisciplinary research initiative exploring how apocalyptic traditions manifest in contemporary politics, media, and everyday life. His work demonstrates consistent engagement with how religious narratives provide frameworks for understanding cultural crises and societal transformations.
