Frederik Emil Juul is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Health Management and Health Economics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, and is affiliated with Oslo University Hospital. He is a key member of the Clinical Effectiveness research group where he conducts research on fecal microbiota transplantation, epidemiology, screening and surveillance, colon cancer, and gastrointestinal diseases. Dr. Juul also serves as a lecturer for medical students in the subject "KLoK" (Evidence based medicine, management and leadership, and Quality Improvement).
Dr. Juul graduated as a doctor from the University of Oslo and defended his PhD thesis in 2023 on the effect and quality of endoscopic colon cancer screening. His clinical background includes work as a general practitioner and as a physician in specialization in internal medicine at Bærum Hospital. His primary research interests center on microbiota therapy, particularly for treating Clostridioides difficile infections, alongside colorectal cancer screening methodologies and epidemiological studies.
Dr. Juul's research portfolio demonstrates a consistent focus on innovative gastrointestinal treatments, with particular emphasis on fecal microbiota transplantation as an alternative to traditional antibiotic therapy for C. difficile. His work spans from early-stage clinical trials to population-level epidemiological studies, reflecting a comprehensive approach to improving patient outcomes through evidence-based medicine. Recent publications show increasing focus on comparative effectiveness research, particularly in colorectal cancer screening modalities.
- Certificate of recognition as an early career investigator at Digestive Disease Week 2018
- Best late-breaking abstract at UEG week 2024 for "Fecal microbiota transplant versus vancomycin for primary clostridioides difficile infection - a randomized non-inferiority trial"
Dr. Juul is actively involved in teaching medical students and supervising research within the Clinical Effectiveness research group. His primary project is the COLONIZE clinical trial investigating fecal microbiota transplantation for primary C. difficile infections. He also contributes to research on microbiota therapy for irritable bowel syndrome and continues to publish on colorectal cancer screening effectiveness.
As a core member of the Clinical Effectiveness research group at Oslo University Hospital, Dr. Juul collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, researchers, and healthcare administrators to evaluate and improve clinical practices through rigorous scientific investigation, with particular attention to translating research findings into practical healthcare improvements.
