Frederico de Lacerda da Costa Pinto

Frederico de Lacerda da Costa Pinto is an Associate Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the NOVA School of Law, where he also serves as President of the Pedagogical Council. He holds a PhD in Law from FDUNL (2013) and has extensive experience in legal academia and regulatory roles. He previously served as Director of the Legal Department at NOVA Law (1992–1995) and as Advisor to the Board of Directors of the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) from 1996 to 2020. His research focuses on criminal law theory, criminal procedure, financial crimes, administrative offenses, and supervision of financial systems. He is a member of the Criminalia research group and Deputy Director of Themis Journal. He has authored/co-authored over 100 studies and books, including works on criminal liability theory, evidence law, and financial market regulation. His scholarship includes stays at the Max-Planck Institute in Germany. He has supervised over 60 master’s theses and served on 20 PhD juries. His work frequently addresses compliance, anti-corruption frameworks, and European human rights law.
