Frederick Solt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Iowa. His research focuses on the consequences of economic inequality for political attitudes and behavior, with a particular emphasis on comparative politics and political methodology. He created and maintains the Standardized World Income Inequality Database (SWIID), a key resource for cross-national inequality research, and leads the Dynamic Comparative Public Opinion (DCPO) Lab, which develops Bayesian models for analyzing public opinion trends.
Education: Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina (2003). His work has been published in top journals like the American Journal of Political Science and the British Journal of Political Science. He has collaborated extensively on projects examining democratic support, gender egalitarianism, and LGBTQ+ rights across nations. His recent research explores multidimensional democratic support metrics and the global rise in income inequality.
