Prof. Dr. Frederick Rieländer is a Full Professor of Private Law, Private International Law, and Comparative Law at the University of Bremen's Faculty of Law since July 2023 and serves as Director of the Centre of European Law and Politics (ZERP) since October 2023. He previously held acting professorships at multiple German institutions (Gießen, Münster, Bremen, Mainz, Frankfurt/Oder) from 2020-2023 and was a legal researcher with Prof. Christian von Bar at the University of Osnabrück (2011-2020).
Research Focus: His expertise spans German and European Private Law, Private International Law, Comparative Law, and Civil Procedural Law, with specific emphasis on
- Jurisdictional frameworks (Brussels Regulation)
- Digital assets and blockchain law
- Consumer protection mechanisms
- Family law conflict-of-laws issues
- Credit rating agency liability
- Legal harmonization in housing policy
Notable Publications: His recent work analyzes CJEU rulings on Anti-SLAPP Directive implementation, data protection standing, and gender recognition principles. He has also published extensively on tenancy law exams, digital property reform, and cross-border insurance claims.
