معرفی
Frederick A. Luzzio is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Louisville. He specializes in organic and medicinal chemistry, focusing on synthetic strategies for biologically active compounds, total synthesis of complex molecules, and isolation of natural products. His research involves collaborations with the National Cancer Institute and the University of Louisville School of Medicine’s Neurosciences Department. Key projects include thalidomide analog development, acetogenin isolation from paw paw trees, and anti-infective heterocyclic scaffolds.
- Education: B.S. (Vanderbilt University, 1976), M.S. & Ph.D. (Tufts University, 1979 & 1982), Postdoctoral Fellow (Harvard University, 1982–1985)
Research interests span synthetic organic chemistry, natural product discovery, and drug design. Recent work emphasizes click chemistry applications for antimicrobial agents and structural elucidation of bioactive compounds. His publications (15+ recent entries) highlight innovations in heterocyclic chemistry, oxidation reactions, and biofilm inhibition.
- Service: Executive Committee/Treasurer, International Society of Heterocyclic Chemistry
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with interdisciplinary groups in medicine, pharmacy, and chemistry to advance biomedical solutions. The HETCHEM@louisville.edu email reflects his leadership in heterocyclic research networks.
