Frederic M. Kopp is a Lecturer in Germanic Studies at the University of Chicago, teaching elementary German language courses and Reading German for Research Purposes (GRMN 33333). He joined UChicago in 2013 and serves as an exam designer/grader for the Academic Reading Comprehension Assessment (ARCA) program.
- Education: Ph.D. in German and Modern European History (University of Illinois at Chicago, 2001)
- Prior affiliations: DePaul University, Columbia College Chicago, Lewis University
His research focuses on 20th-century German cultural history, particularly Weimar-era cinema/expressionist art and postwar West German youth culture/rock music. He is currently writing a book on the Berlin Wall’s fall and German reunification.
At UChicago, he teaches GRMN 10201 (Elementary German 2) and GRMN 10300 (Elementary German 3), alongside his ARCA responsibilities.
