Frederic Geissmann

Frederic Geissmann, MD, PhD is a Professor at the Weill Cornell Medicine Graduate School of Medical Sciences in the Immunology & Microbial Pathogenesis department. Holding the William E. Snee Chair, he investigates cellular and molecular mechanisms governing macrophage and monocyte differentiation, maintenance, and physiological roles in tissue homeostasis and disease.

Research Focus: The Geissmann Lab explores how tissue macrophages control growth/metabolism and their dual roles in cancer progression vs. restraint. Key work includes characterizing monocyte heterogeneity, dendritic cell development, and the role of PU.1 in immune cell fate determination.

Scientific Contributions: His research has redefined understanding of monocyte developmental pathways, tissue-resident macrophage specification, and their implications in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. Notable publications include studies on GM-CSF-dependent dendritic cell generation, Sfpi1 haploinsufficiency effects, and Zbtb46 lineage tracing.
