Fred Attal is a Lecturer in the French Studies and Modern Languages Department at The American University of Paris (AUP), where he has taught since 1996. His courses emphasize innovative language-learning approaches, including modules on Parisian café culture, department store history, and digital media (e.g., creating French-language blogs). He has designed specialized classes like 'Crimes and Society: The Major Cases That Changed France' and 'French Immersion: Intermediate II.' Attal is also active in pedagogical initiatives, such as the French Writing Lab (a weekly advanced writing workshop) and maintains a departmental blog, AUParisJournal, fostering student-teacher exchange on Parisian life and French culture.
Outside academia, he collaborates with SACEM (Society of Authors, Composers, and Music Publishers of France) since 1998 and has contributed to adapting a French detective novel into a cinematic script. His teaching philosophy integrates multimedia resources—songs, films, and graphic novels—to enhance language acquisition.
