Freddy Saia is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the University of Illinois Chicago, working under the mentorship of Alina Cojocaru. His research focuses on number theory and arithmetic geometry, including elliptic curves, Shimura curves, and Galois representations.
He received his PhD in 2023 from the University of Georgia under Pete L. Clark and a B.S. in math and physics from Tufts University in 2017.
He has mentored undergraduate students through research projects and the Directed Reading Program, covering topics like p-adic numbers, elliptic curves, and geometric group theory.
Dr. Saia has served as a graduate student ombudsperson at UGA and on curriculum committees at UIC.
