Freddy Malone is a Lecturer in the Art Therapy department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He holds a BA in Developmental Psychology from DePaul University (1998) and an MAAT from SAIC (2002). He is licensed as an LCPC (Illinois, 2003) and holds an ATR credential (2009). His clinical work focuses on trauma-informed art therapy, specializing in serving individuals, families, and children impacted by adverse childhood experiences, child welfare systems, and community violence.
Malone integrates Jungian, relational, systems, and developmental theories into his practice, using art-making processes like drawing, sculpting, and origami to facilitate trauma processing. He is certified in Trauma-Focused CBT and EMDR, adapting these interventions with art therapy techniques to enhance emotional regulation and narrative healing. His work emphasizes bilateral stimulation and mask-making for trauma integration.
He currently serves as a clinical manager for the Inspiring Hope program at Catholic Charities, where he has worked since 2002. He teaches courses such as Professional Development and Career Counseling (ARTH 6006) at SAIC, focusing on career development and clinical skill-building for students.
