Katie Kamholz is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Art Therapy and Counseling department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She is also a practicing art therapist and educator with over 15 years of experience across clinical, educational, and community settings. Her work integrates feminist, relational, and social justice frameworks with neuroscience theories of development and attachment.
Education: BFA from Washington University (2002), MAAT from SAIC (2004). She has held roles at Milwaukee Bureau of Child Welfare, adolescent residential treatment centers, pediatric psychiatric facilities, and schools in Oak Park/Chicago.
Research Focus: Developmental/generational trauma, mind-body practices, attachment repair, and trauma-informed art therapy. Her clinical practice specializes in childhood/adolescent issues, foster care, adoption, and trauma recovery.
Teaching: Since 2014, she has instructed graduate art therapy students at SAIC, emphasizing ethical practice and intersectional approaches.
