Fred Moten

Fred Moten is Professor and Associate Chair of Performance Studies and Professor of Comparative Literature at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. His transdisciplinary scholarship engages black study, critical theory, poetics, sonic culture, and visual practice.

Moten collaborates internationally through collectives including Stefano Harney & Fred Moten, Black Arts Movement School Modality, and the Harris/Moten Quartet. His theoretical work examines improvisation, sociality, and fugitivity as sites of black radical tradition.
