معرفی
Dr. Fred Longstaffe is a Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences, Western University, where he holds the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Stable Isotope Science. As Director of the Laboratory for Stable Isotope Science and Director of the Western Academy for Advanced Research, his work spans the atmosphere-hydrosphere-biosphere-lithosphere continuum, focusing on stable isotope applications to Earth systems, paleoclimate reconstruction, and bioarchaeology.
- Ph.D., McMaster University (1978)
- Labs: BGS 0159, WSC 54
His research emphasizes:
- Isotopic systematics of hydrous minerals
- Climate proxies in terrestrial and lacustrine systems
- Hydrothermal rock-water interactions
- Bioarchaeological climate reconstruction
- Isotopic tracing of migration patterns
- Experimental investigations of isotope exchange
Key publication trends (2019-2024) reveal interdisciplinary applications of stable isotopes across:
- Geochemistry (clay mineral isotopologues)
- Paleoclimatology (ice cores, lake sediments)
- Archaeology (human and animal mobility)
- Planetary Science (Mars analog studies)
- Ecology (marine and terrestrial species)
- Resource Geoscience (oil sands alteration)
Honors include:
- Member of the Order of Canada (C.M.)
- Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (F.R.S.C.)
- Distinguished University Professor designation
- Professional Geoscientist (P.Geol.)
Current supervisees work on:
- Post-glacial hydroclimatic change
- Isotopic tracing of lake environments
- Clay mineral water interactions
- Stable isotope bioarchaeology
- Deep geological repository studies
- Experimental isotope exchange
