Fred Cutler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Arts. He specializes in Canadian politics, public opinion, federalism, and quantitative methods. His research focuses on electoral behavior, democratic satisfaction, and the impact of federalism on political accountability. Cutler holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto (1991) and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (2000).
He has received SSHRCC funding for research on 'Polls and Elections' and contributed to the Canadian Election Study (2011, 2015). His work explores how local economic and social contexts shape political attitudes, including studies on voter turnout, party competition, and satisfaction with democracy. Cutler has served as Director of Undergraduate Programs in Political Science and Director of Arts ISIT, leading educational technology initiatives.
