Fred Cummins is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at University College Dublin. His research focuses on the enactive approach to cognition, particularly the study of joint speech and its role in shaping collective subjectivity. He earned a PhD in Cognitive Science and Linguistics from Indiana University (1997) and has held academic positions since 1999, including a Lectureship at UCD since 1999 and postdoctoral roles at IDSIA (Switzerland) and Northwestern University. His work bridges cognitive science, philosophy, and linguistics, emphasizing embodied interaction and the critique of representationalist frameworks.
