Fred Boehrer is an Instructor at the Department of Allied Health Sciences at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS). He previously served as Director of Academic Service-Learning at the College of Saint Rose and as a Lecturer in Peace Studies, Philosophy, and Religious Studies at Siena College. His academic background includes a PhD in Religion from Syracuse University with focuses on social justice, ethics, sociology, philosophy, and theology. He also holds an MA in Religion (Syracuse University) and a BA in Philosophy and Religious Studies from the University at Albany.
Boehrer’s research and teaching emphasize social justice, restorative justice, and ethical engagement. His work spans topics such as homelessness, immigrant rights, religious activism (e.g., Dorothy Day, Daniel Berrigan), and structural inequality. He has published in venues like Contemporary Justice Review and edited volumes on justice and theology. His presentations address intergenerational food security, service-learning pedagogy, and the 'New Sanctuary Movement' for undocumented immigrants.
He has been honored with awards including the 2024 Dinnie Shanley Award and the 2014 Human Rights Award for community activism. His professional affiliations include the Justice Studies Association and Emmaus House (Albany Catholic Worker Community). Key roles include organizing conferences on social justice and delivering keynote addresses on Dr. King’s 'Beloved Community' vision and restorative justice practices.
