Fred Allen is a Teaching Professor and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education at Drexel University. He holds a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania (1996), an MSEE in Electrical Engineering from Villanova University (1989), and a BSEE in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1984). He also completed a post-doctorate in Bioengineering and Environmental Health at MIT (2000).

Dr. Allen's research spans tissue engineering, cell engineering, orthopedics, bone remodeling, wound healing, mechanotransduction, signal transduction, adhesion, and migration. His work intersects biomedical engineering, bioengineering, and mechanical biology.
In 2022, Dr. Allen and Zack Goldblum participated in an Instagram Live event discussing biomedical engineering experiences. He also holds U.S. Patent No. 5,653,723 for a keratotomy method developed with Dr. William Kamerling.
