Fraser Bruce is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Design and Making, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee. His career spans industry and academia, with expertise in product design, biomimetic design, and innovation management. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on design thinking, prototyping, and digital technologies.
Research Focus: Integration of biomimetic principles into product design and innovation strategies. Collaborations include NASA, Mozilla, Deutsche Telekom, and the V&A Museum. Key projects include antimicrobial resistance stewardship (AHRC), community resilience (EU/Scottish Government), and the Arts API Project (Digital R&D Fund for the Arts).
Grants/Projects: £247K AHRC Co-Investigator for antimicrobial resistance research (2017), £292K Arts API Project (2014-15), and £10K Principal Investigator for Sustainable Futures (2010-11). Part of an interdisciplinary studio with Prof. Jon Rogers and Drs. Chris Lim/Nick Taylor, securing funding from EPSRC, AHRC, and EU.
Industry Experience: Former mechanical design engineer at Ninewells Hospital (MAS instruments) and project lead for Dundee by Design (ERDF-funded product development). Established an NPD Excellence Programme for microenterprises.
