Dr. Franklin Nobrega is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton. He holds academic affiliations with the National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC), Precision Biosciences Innovation Hub, and the Institute for Life Sciences. His research focuses on bacteriophage biology, bacterial defense mechanisms, biofilm formation, and combatting antibiotic resistance. He leads projects such as phage therapy for urinary tract infections and investigating the gut-brain axis in critical illness. Dr. Nobrega has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles on topics including CRISPR-Cas systems, phage-host interactions, and microbiome studies. He serves as a reviewer for Critical Reviews in Microbiology.
His research integrates molecular biology and genomics to explore phage applications in medicine and biotechnology. Notable contributions include the discovery of synergistic anti-phage defense systems and the characterization of novel bacteriophages targeting clinical pathogens. Dr. Nobrega also contributes to educational initiatives, such as nanopore sequencing guides for classroom use.
