Frankie Stevens is a Lecturer in Music at Falmouth University, specializing in feminist critical musicology and metal music studies. Her research bridges classical operatic performance with modern extreme metal subcultures. She holds a BMus (2016) from the University of Birmingham and an MA (2019) from the University of Groningen, focusing on women’s experiences in doom metal.
Teaching responsibilities include modules on vocal studies, music theory, and popular music culture across undergraduate programs like Popular Music BA(Hons), Music BA(Hons), and Creative Music Technology BA(Hons). Research outputs include seminal work on operatic influences in metal and co-editing the forthcoming Routledge volume on feminist metal studies.
Performance credits include touring Europe with black metal collective Denigrata and releasing Missa Defunctorum: Requiem Mass in A Minor. She collaborates with Nachthexe in the dark folk duo Dōlǒur. Past achievements include performing at the Royal Albert Hall with the YMV Choir during the Cultural Olympiad.
